IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION BY USING LISTEN – READ – DISCUSS (LRD) STRATEGY IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT THE GRADE X OF SMK MUHAMMADIYAH 04 MEDAN

Abstract

This research aimed to improve the reading comprehension of the X grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 04 Medan by using the LRD reading strategy. The population of this study was 30 students. The method used in the study is classroom action research (CAR). Data collection techniques in this research were observation, interview, test and documentation. The results showed that there was an improvement in students reading comprehension by using the LRD strategy with a pre-test score 50.83 in cycle I with a score of 69.16 and cycle II 83.33 . It meant that there was an increase about 46% from the test results given by students with LRD strategy. From this results, there was an improvement that could be seen from the pre-test results in cycles I and cycle II. It was proven that LRD strategy had given more an improvement to increase students' reading comprehension to read a text, especially descriptive text.
