IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN USING PERSONAL PRONOUNS IN NARRATIVE TEXT AT THE NINTH GRADE OF SMP PAB 19 MANUNGGAL

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate whether the use of personal pronouns and narrative text can improve students' writing abilities. This research was carried out through a Classroom Action Research (PTK) design. The subjects of this research were class IX students at SMP PAB 19 Manunggal, consisting of 32 students and carried out in two cycles. The data collection instruments are quantitative data on personal pronouns and narrative text. Qualitative data are from observation sheets and interviews with English teachers. Based on data analysis, the scores obtained by students increased with each test. The student test results show that the average pre-test score is 70.46. The average post-test value for cycle I was 79.37. The average post-test value for cycle II was 82.5. Based on observation sheets and interviews, it was found that the teaching and learning process went smoothly and students were enthusiastic in carrying out the assignments given by the researcher. Can conclude that the use of personal pronouns and narrative text can improve students' ability to write English sentences.
