IMPROVING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY IN ENGLISH FOR HOTEL BY USING INTEGRATED APPROACH AT GRADE TEN SMK SWASTA IMELDA MEDAN

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the use integrated approach and terminology in English for hotel was effective or not in learning English vocabulary mastery in grade X students of SMK Swasta Pariwisata Imelda Medan. The writer applied the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. The population in this study were students of class XI AP at SMK Swasta Pariwisata Imelda Medan, totaling 32students. Based on the research that the researcher has done previously, it can be concluded that the researcher obtained qualitative data and quantitative data, the results showed an increase in students" vocabulary mastery by using integrated approach, here were all students those who passed the KKM. (75). These results come from the data in the pre-cycle, first cycle, and second cycle. In the pre-cycle of the pre-test, 2 students succeeded with a percentage of 6% and 30 students did not succeed with a percentage of 94%, and in the first cycle, 5 students succeeded with a percentage of 16% and 27 students did not succeed with a percentage of 84% and then in the second cycle 30 students succeeded with a percentage of 94% and 2 students who did not succeed with a percentage of 6%in post-test II. Qualitative data were also obtained by conducting interviews and observations of English teacher. The class becomes more interesting and students are very active in learning English, especially to improve students' vocabulary mastery about English for hotel based on the students' major. It can be concluded that integrated approach was effective for improving vocabulary mastery about hotel of class X-AP students of SMK Swasta Pariwisata Imelda Medan. The results showed a significant increase. Evidenced by the difference between the students' average scores in the pre-test and post-test activities in the first and second.
